The market for distributed denial of service (DDoS) mitigation includes vendors that detect and mitigate DDoS attacks and offer it as a dedicated offering. It includes specialty vendors, whose primary focus is DDoS mitigation, as well as providers that offer DDoS mitigation as a feature of other services. These include dedicated appliance-based vendors, communication service providers (CSPs), content delivery network (CDN) vendors, hosting providers and cloud infrastructure and platform services (CIPS) vendors.
DDoS attacks are growing in frequency and volume. These attacks are becoming more sophisticated, targeting organizations of varying sizes and not confined to a particular vertical.

The DDoS mitigation market will continue to grow as a key security market. With DDoS attacks on rise, enterprises on low risk, and without any DDoS mitigation in place, are considering or purchasing some form of DDoS protection, and enterprises with basic protection are upgrading their mitigation. Also, with growing sophisticated attacks and the move toward cloud infrastructure, clients are concerned whether the providers are equipped to detect use-case-specific attacks, such as denial-of-wallet attacks, and prevent them. Gartner has seen many clients moving away from on-demand to always-on services, and clients increasing their protection bandwidth. However, on-demand is still desirable for enterprises with low-risk profiles and lower budgets for such a service.
