Home Resource Center Glossary IPv6

IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is a revision of the Internet Protocol (IP) developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). IPv6 is intended to succeed IPv4, which is still the dominant communications protocol for most Internet traffic. IPv6 implements a new addressing system containing far more addresses than with IPv4. IPv6 also provides improvements in address auto configuration, network-layer security overall routing simplicity, and more.
