A10 Networks Launches Industry's First 64-bit Operating System for Application Delivery
SAN JOSE, CA. - October 14, 2009 -- A10 Networks™, the technology leader in Application Delivery Controllers (ADCs), today announced its 64-bit Advanced Core Operation System (ACOS), the industry's first Application Delivery OS based on native 64-bit code, is now shipping. The combination of the 64-bit ACOS running on A10's new 64-bit AX Series hardware platforms demonstrates A10's continued ability to innovate, being the first to market with a full line of high-performance 64-bit Advanced ADCs. Customers can now select between the existing 32-bit and the new 64-bit ACOS architectures, according to their specific Application Delivery and Load Balancing requirements.
Unprecedented Extensibility for Requirements: Today and the Future
ACOS was designed from the ground up to support multi-core CPUs, and 32-bit or 64-bit processing. By eliminating the 4-GB memory limitation of 32-bit architectures, the new 64-bit ACOS allows each processing thread to utilize more than 4-GB of addressable memory. This translates to unprecedented scalability for Layer 4-7 features such as scalable buffering for application flow Surge Protection, larger RAM Caching for optimizing application response time, in addition to smart buffering to achieve greater throughput, servicing of more overall sessions and faster processing capabilities. The 64-bit ACOS delivers the industry's most extensible architecture for application delivery requirements today, and in the future.
With the 64-bit ACOS, A10 introduces five new AX Series models with throughput ranging from 10 Gbps to 40 Gbps. For example, A10's AX 5200, the world's fastest ADC, which runs the 64-bit ACOS software, utilizes half the amount of processor cores for over three times the connections per second than the equivalent supercomputer class ADCs on the market today. This is achieved with a third less space and power requirements to run than the next comparable competitor's chassis system.
ACOS: Accuracy, Efficiency and Speed
A10's ACOS is the only Application Delivery OS that utilizes an innovative shared memory architecture, which achieves the enviable goal of eliminating Inter-process Communication (IPC) to deliver speed, efficiency and traffic statistics accuracy. ACOS shared memory allows efficient access to application data in a multi-thread, multi-core system. Applications benefit from fast, accurate real-time decision criteria for features such as core server selection to other advanced application security features. ACOS achieves true linear Scalable Symmetrical Multi-Processing (SSMP) and efficiency with faster processing than competing systems due to zero interrupt, zero scheduling, zero locking and zero buffer copy.
"A10's new ACOS release is the world's first 64-bit Application Delivery OS, designed for unprecedented extensibility and speed, and continuing our tradition of market-leading technology innovation," said Lee Chen, founder and CEO of A10 Networks. "The new 64-bit ACOS enables AX Series to consolidate advanced features for initiatives such as application security, Virtualization, Cloud Computing and more. Customers who deploy our AX Series Application Delivery Controllers with the 64-bit ACOS will benefit from a modern, high-performance architecture to handle Internet advancement today, and years into the future."
