Wildpackets and A10 Networks Collaborate to Link Network Analysis with User Identification

Integrated Solution Instantly Tracks Network Activity Back To Users

Interop New York 2006

SAN JOSE, CA, September 19, 2006 - WildPackets Inc., innovators in advanced network analysis, and A10 Networks, a pioneer in delivering identity-aware network solutions, today announced integration between the WildPackets OmniAnalysis Platform and the A10 Networks IDsentrie appliance for identity management. This integration provides instant identity resolution for network activity, significantly reducing network trouble-shooting time by eliminating the manual step of back-tracking Media Access Control (MAC) and Internet Protocol (IP) address information to user identity.

Combining Network Analysis with Instant IP-to-ID

When a company network is infected by a fast-moving worm, the WildPackets OmniAnalysis Platform expertly identifies the unusual behavior, and immediately alerts the engineer that a problem is occurring. OmniAnalysis even pinpoints the source of the infection to a specific IP address. But while the network engineer is away from his workstation or has no information regarding which user identity (ID) belongs to the IP address, the worm is already attempting to spread itself to other IP addresses. Time is of the essence. If only the engineer knew the user ID for this IP address, the user could be immediately notified, and asked to shut down their system before more damage is done.

Integrating WildPackets OmniAnalysis Platform with A10 Networks' IP-to-ID features within its IDsentrie appliance eliminates this problem. The alert received by the network engineer now includes not only the IP address, but the username as well. The user can be contacted instantly, saving countless hours of network troubleshooting and repair.

In addition to helping network administrators and security officers quickly identify the users involved in a security attack, the translation of IP addresses to user names makes general network troubleshooting and diagnostics easier as well. Administrators can clearly see which users are affected by slow or unresponsive servers, for example.

The WildPackets/A10 Networks solution takes advantage of the extensibility of both the WildPackets and A10 Networks product lines. A new plug-in for WildPackets' OmniPeek Analyzer calls the open interface of the A10 Networks IP-to-ID service to effect the IP address translation.

"A10 Networks' customers will love the easy integration of WildPackets products into their IDsentrie appliance to leverage this real-time correlation of network address to identity," states Mahboud Zabetian, president and CEO of WildPackets. "Current users of WildPackets' OmniAnalysis Platform and A10 Networks' IDsentrie appliance only need to install a small software agent."

"The IP-to-ID service within our IDsentrie appliance has been instrumental to IT engineers as it greatly reduces the time to problem resolution and mitigates the potential damage regarding network threats," said Lee Chen, president and CEO of A10 Networks. "By combining the WildPackets and A10 Networks solutions, customers can now proactively monitor and troubleshoot network issues more accurately and quickly, further increasing the time and money saved while resolving network problems."

WildPackets and A10 Networks will be demonstrating this joint solution at the Interop New York Exposition in Booth 543 from September 19 - September 21. The software agent that enables this integration is free to customers of either WildPackets or A10 Networks.
