At the heart of the AX Series family of new generation server load balancing appliances is the Advanced Core Operating System (ACOS) architecture. ACOS has garnered numerous awards due to its revolutionary approach compared to the current market. ACOS features:
- 64-bit load balancer appliances: Integrated 64-bit hardware and 64-bit OS (32-bit models also available).
- True Scalable Symmetrical Multi-Processing (SSMP).
- Built from the ground up to be optimized for multi-core CPUs, versus competitors' boxes, which are largely single-chip, single-system switches.
- Exponentially faster processing provided by freeing instruction sets to run across an optimized multi-core CPU system architecture, rather than running the same set of instructions across a legacy single-CPU system.
AX Series new generation load balancers are leading the market with performance, scalability and reliability for networks with high-volume traffic. The A10 team used its super computing chops to develop its own operating system (called the Advanced Core Operating System or ACOS) which can perform high-speed parallel processing without slowing down to distribute or copy packets across multiple CPUs. This algorithm is more efficient than other industry devices that rely on the Linux operating system and its much less efficient parallel processing capabilities. The ACOS operating system is supported by A10's custom ASICs which are added to its devices to achieve a foundation of line-rate switching and routing to keep the devices humming along.
